Dryad from Böblingen and Tübingen, Germany are playing melodic metal, which they call Epic Pagan Metal. The combination of electric and classical instruments builds the foundation for the most often screamed sometimes clear voiced tales that the band wants to share with it’s listeners. While the songs of the debut „The whispering Winds oft he Hill“ focused on myths from ancient Greece, the band later has opened up to different themes for their songs. But most of them are based on historical facts and events. Dryad wants to form a personal connection between the songs and the listeners. That’s why they write their lyrics in English and German and try not only to retell the stories but to enrich them with personal interpretations.
The music is influenced by Melodic Death Metal, Black Metal and Folk Metal due to the vastly spreading musical interests of the band members. While the first album surprised with the use of a trumpet, the newer sound shows a little more finesse. Unlike most other metal bands Dryad only uses one guitar and fills up the rhythm section with a Cello and finishes their blend of metal and classical with a violin. This line up makes the music very emotional fitting the serious themes oft he lyrics.
Their first ever EP „Panta Rhei“ continues the path of the six musicians by telling tales about various forms of death. The texts are underlaid with music widening up Dryad‘s sound into every direction. It gets more melodic, it gets harder, it gets more emotional!
