Audiobook quality: Requirements for Audible and other audiobook platforms

If you want to produce an audiobook or radio play for platforms such as Audible or others, it is important that you meet certain technical requirements. These minimum requirements ensure that your production is of high quality and meets the platforms' standards.

Technical requirements for Audible and other platforms include

  • Use of WAV or FLAC file format.
  • 2-channel stereo
  • PCM (Pulse Code Modulation)
  • Constant bit rate
  • Sampling rate of at least 44.1kHz
  • At least 16 bits per sample
  • Free from ambient noise
  • RMS must be between -24db and -14db.
  • There should be no more than 3 seconds of silence at the beginning or end of a track. Please also ensure that there are no more than 3 seconds of silence within a track.
  • A single track should not be longer than 60 minutes.
  • To be able to supply all shops, tracks (excluding intros and outros) must be at least 3 minutes long.
  • The total playing time of your audio play/audiobook should be over 10 minutes to be accepted by Audible.

We also recommend that you have your audiobook post-produced by an experienced audio engineer for the best possible result. With these requirements in mind, you can ensure that your audiobook or radio play is of high quality and can be easily offered on platforms such as Audible.
